# Social Networks
Social Networks like Facebook and Twitter use Open Graph meta tags, and Compass validates that you use them appropriately.
All the meta properties that start with
twitter:card must be in the
head tag of your HTML pages.
# URL mandatory
For Compass, the
og:url meta tag is mandatory:
<meta property="og:url" content="https://thenews.com" />
And its content must be exactly equal to the canonical page URL.
# Title mandatory
You must always include the
og:title meta, with the headline of the article:
<meta property="og:title" content="Boy jumps comet!" />
Remember that the article headline is not the same thing as the webpage title.
# Description mandatory
Always include a description of the article:
<meta property="og:description" content="[DESCRIPTION]" />
# Image mandatory
You must always add the article's illustration image information, split in 3 meta tags:
<meta property="og:image" content="https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1534361960057-19889db9621e" /> <meta property="og:image:width" content="5184" /> <meta property="og:image:height" content="3456" />
The image URL you write here must return a 200 HTTP code and be at least 600 pixels wide, although we recommend 1200 pixels for best quality.
The image format must be one of JPG, PNG, WEBP, or GIF.
Finally, the width and height you provide must be the exact image measurements.
# Type optional
If you use the
og:type meta tag, it must contain either
website and nothing else:
<meta property="og:type" content="article" /> <meta property="og:type" content="website" />
