More accurate Google Discover traffic attribution
Google has changed the signals it sends when users arrive at publishers from Discover, making Discover traffic significantly harder to distinguish from other Google traffic.
In response, Marfeel has developed a new attribution method that reliably identifies Google Discover traffic again.
Google rolled out these changes progressively over several days, before they became much more significant on October 6. As a result, part of the traffic that would normally have been identified as Discover could temporarily appear under other Google traffic sources.
Within 24 hours of the October 6 change, we developed and validated a new attribution method. It addresses the latest shift while also improving attribution for the more subtle changes Google had introduced over the preceding days.
There is a small trade-off: in our validation, less than 0.6% of Google Search traffic may now be attributed to Discover . We believe this is a strong accuracy trade-off given how little explicit information Google currently provides to distinguish the two sources.
No action is needed on your end. The improved attribution is applied automatically.
