Custom Variables Dimensions
Custom dimensions let publishers track specific attributes of a user at three levels: individual page hits, full sessions, and the user’s lifecycle. These custom variables enable more fine-grained tracking than standard dimensions alone.
Dimensions
Section titled “Dimensions”Page vars
Section titled “Page vars”Page vars track page-specific actions or information by setting a categorical page variable. For example, you can record when a page uses a blue button instead of a green one. A different value is tracked for each pageview. Visit our documentation for more information on Page vars.
Session vars
Section titled “Session vars”Session vars capture information that stays unchanged for the entire duration of a user’s visit. For example, you can assign a user to a specific bucket for A/B testing so they see a consistent experience throughout their session. Visit our documentation for more information on Session vars.
User vars
Section titled “User vars”User vars add information specific to each user. This data persists between visits, allowing you to segment your audience by visitor attributes, for example into those who have or have not subscribed to push notifications. Visit our documentation for more information on User vars.
This is also useful for tracking user characteristics, such as:
- Gender: Male or Female
- Age range: 18-25, 26-35, 35-45, 45-60, 60+
User Segments
Section titled “User Segments”A user segment is a specific group of users who share similar characteristics, behaviors, or preferences. Segments can be defined based on various criteria such as demographics, browsing habits, or interaction with content. If you track user segments via a DMP or CDP, passing them to Marfeel helps you analyze content, advertising, and user experiences to better meet the needs of each distinct group.
Visit our documentation to learn more about User Segments.
Metrics
Section titled “Metrics”Page Metric
Section titled “Page Metric”Page metrics track specific numerical data points for individual pages on your website. These custom measurements capture any quantifiable aspect of page content or user interactions, such as the number of ads loaded, video load time, or time to first bid. Visit our documentation for more information on Page Metrics.

What are custom variables in Marfeel?
Custom variables are specific attributes of a user tracked in the context of a page hit, a session, or their lifecycle. Publishers use them to enable more fine-grained tracking beyond standard dimensions.
What is the difference between page vars, session vars, and user vars?
Page vars track page-specific actions per pageview (e.g., button color). Session vars persist for the duration of a single visit (e.g., A/B test bucket). User vars persist across visits and allow audience segmentation (e.g., push notification subscription status).
How can I use user segments with custom dimensions?
User segments group users who share similar characteristics, behaviors, or preferences. If you track segments via a DMP or CDP, passing them to Marfeel lets you analyze content, advertising, and user experiences for each distinct group.
