Marfeel Sessions tracking rules and available metrics
Marfeel Sessions are available for Enterprise accounts and provide session-level tracking that differs from Google Analytics in several important ways.
Session tracking rules
Section titled “Session tracking rules”Sessions follow these rules:
- Each new external referral starts a new session. If a user visits the site twice from Google 10 minutes apart, Marfeel counts two sessions. Google Analytics would count only one, since GA requires at least 30 minutes between visits from the same source.
- 30 minutes of inactivity triggers a new session. When a user returns after 30 minutes without activity, the next visit is recorded as a separate session.
- Sessions do not reset at midnight. Unlike Google Analytics, the session ID is preserved across days.
- AMP to web recirculation without third-party cookies creates separate sessions. A browser without third-party cookies that starts on AMP and recirculates to the web computes as 2 users and 2 sessions.
Available session metrics in Explore
Section titled “Available session metrics in Explore”The following engagement metrics are available in Explore:
- Unique Sessions
- Session Reading time
- Session Engagement time
- PV per Session
- Sessions per user
When does Marfeel start a new session?
Marfeel starts a new session on each new external referral (even minutes apart) and after 30 minutes of inactivity. Unlike Google Analytics, sessions do not reset at midnight.
How do Marfeel Sessions differ from Google Analytics sessions?
Google Analytics requires at least 30 minutes between visits from the same source to count a new session, while Marfeel counts each external referral as a separate session regardless of timing. Additionally, Marfeel keeps the session ID across midnight, whereas GA resets it.
What session metrics are available in Explore?
Explore provides five session metrics: Unique Sessions, Session Reading time, Session Engagement time, PV per Session, and Sessions per user.
